Background:
The Jester made her first appearance at a fundraising party held for Senator John Ward of New York by his good friend (and heavy contributor), Lexington Cargill. At first the senator's supporters assumed the Jester was part of the entertainment put on by Cargill, as she was decked out in full jester gear. But then she lept right into the middle of the crowd of party-goers, knocking several down. No one realized that she was chasing after an art thief who had just removed Renoir's Bal du moulin de la Galette (valued at just over $147 million) from Cargill's private study. She quickly cornered the thief, who (rather than surrender), turned on the approaching vigilante, pulled a gun, and began to fire wildly.

The Jester, who returned fire with exploding balls and sleep gas grenades, didn't seem to notice the carnage that was occurring around them. Party guests were injured, either by the vigilante's weapons or the thief's gunfire, and property was being destroyed (including, it must be noted, the Renoir). When Cargill's personal security staff arrived, the melee only got more intense as the Jester seemed to get resentful of the intrusion. Eventually, however, the vigilante was driven away, the thief arrested, and medical personell were called in. Cargill's insurance company has offered a reward for her arrest on charges of vandalism and negligence.

Over the next few months, the Jester made several appearances here and there, always in pursuit of criminals, but never mindful of the collateral damage going on around her. She's never been prosecuted for it, and some jurisdictions actually consider her a hero. Most superheroes simply see her as reckless.
 
Personality/Motivation:
No one knows what drives the Jester. However, it's speculated that she's a thrill seeker. She has absolutely no qualms about wading into the middle of a crowd to take out a villain. This has given her the reputation of a reckless vigilante. The Jester has also shown an impatient side, not waiting for others to get clear before she flips into a fight flinging colored balls. Her one saving grace is her dedication to capturing criminals and stopping their activities. In this, she is just short of obsessive. The reasons for her dedication have never been revealed.

Powers/Tactics:
The Jester is a minor metahuman whose powers make her faster and stronger than the average person. She has shown that she can run, jump, and swim almost to a superhuman level. In addition to her heightened athletic ability, the Jester has built or otherwise acquired several useful gadgets, all of which she uses during her crusade against crime. Her rigged juggling balls are her main attack, which vary from ball to ball. The black ones produces great quantities of smoke, the yellow ones cause blinding flashes of light and sound, the red ones explode into a fiery inferno, the silver ones contain a knock out gas, the blue ones causes ice to instantly form around a target encasing them, and the green ones produce a gas that weakens the person hit by them. She's an accomplished juggler and at times will juggle her colored balls before throwing them In addition to the colored balls, the Jester's mask protects her from flash attacks, and allows the Jester to see at night. She also has a small line gun, and the gloves of her costume have micro-suction cups, allowing her to climb walls with ease.

Lastly, she is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
 
Appearance:
The Jester wears a dark blue skintight bodysuit that covers her entire body, except for her mask. She wears a white Venician carnival mask that makes her eyes look black. She always carries a small satchel which contains her juggling. Otherwise Carnival is a lithe athletic woman. No one knows what she actually looks like under her mask.
